Dates: 21 - 28 July 2019

Every Spring, the nomadic people starting their migration to the North of the Ural Mountains to their camping spots.

The road in the usual sense is not here, so our path will run along the river valleys, swampy areas, through streams and rivers, passes.

We suggest to go to those places where the peoples still keep the authentic tradition. We will spend 4 unforgettable days with 2 families of Nenets or Komy nomads, will see their authentic life and try their lifestyle on ourselves.

Together with our hosts, we will eat traditional dishes, predominantly venison, fish and taiga berries. Of course, there will be more familiar menus available as well. We will rest in sleeping bags, inside a traditional Chum, and, at night, our hosts will run a generator to recharge our batteries.


Day 1
Arriving to Moscow. Checking in. Time to rest. Evening tour the city Meeting at dinner is a good reason to discuss what awaits us ahead.(/D)
Day 2
Arriving to Salekhard. Transfer to hotel, accommodation. Communicating organizational information, time to rest, tour the city, visit the local Museum. (B/)
Day 3
Early transfer (8am) to Labytnangi’s railway station. Train transfer (4hours) to a small station where we are transplanted to the all-terrain tracked vehicle. After an 3 hours or so, the group will be in the Chum of reindeer herders. Dinner with a family. Overnight in the Chum. (B//D)
Day 4-6
Living with the 1-st and 2-nd family. Familiarity with the life and way of nomadic life, traditions of the people. Shooting in the camp. Breakfast, lunch, dinner with the family. Overnight in the Chum. In these days of possible radial trips, including deer herd, fishing for grayling. (B/L/D)
Day 7
Shooting in the camp. Transfer to the station after the breacfast. Train transfer to labytnangi. Hotel accommodation in Salekhard. This day we won’t have dinner. Be ready to have some snacks or nuts. (B/L/)
Day 8
Group transfer to the airport, group returns to Moscow. (//)

What to bring


 – DSLR camera with tripod and remote shutter release, its better to use spikes for your tripod
– A wide angle lens. For example, Nikkor 14-24 or Canon 17-40. Best lens for use in wide-angle scenes or architecture photography
– A middle-zoom lens such as a 24-70 mm

– A telephoto zoom lens, such as a 70-200 mm or 100-400mm

 – Waterproof and windproof jacket (consider the average temperatures is 10-15C
– Waterproof pants

– Casual clothes for dinners and lunches

– Sleeping bag

– Mosquito nets and sprays

Guide of the tour:

Vladimir Kushnarev Professional photographer, guide. In addition to photography and travel, Vladimir conducts professional workshops on post-processing in Photoshop and Lightroom editors, panoramic photography, night landscape photography. Spending a lot of time travelling, he still manages to take part in some contests.
